One day the king of animals asked a cat to see how his palace was built. After a few hours, the little cat came back and said to the tiger, “Oh, your palace is very large, tall and beautiful. ”Several days later the tiger asked a pig to see it. He said, “Go and see how my palace is built. ”But when the pig came back, he said to the tiger, “My dear king, I thought your palace is beautiful, but it suits yourself only. ”
The tiger was very surprised when he heard it. “Why are the cat’s and the pig’s answers not the same? ”he said to himself. He then asked a camel to go to have a look. Before long the camel ran back out of breath and said to the tiger, “Oh, your palace is too small for you to live in, my king. ”
The king became very angry when he heard what the camel said. He said to the animals angrily, “Maybe somebody of you tell lies. Three people have three ideas. I want to kill you. ”Just at the moment, a fox came out to stop the tiger from doing that. He asked the tiger himself to go to see it before killing them.
After the tiger saw the palace himself, he thought that their answers were all right. He said to the animals, “To see with one’s own eyes is more important than only to hear others. ”

  The First Snow (初雪)
The first snow came. How beautiful it was, falling so silently all day long, all night long,on the mountains,on the meadows,on the roofs of the living,on the graves of the dead. All white save the river, that marked its course by a winding(缠,绕) black line across the landscape(风景,山水画);and the leafless trees, that against the leaden(沉闷的)sky now revealed more fully the wonderful beauty and intricacies of their branches. What silence, too, came with the snow, and what seclusion(隔离)! Every sound was muffled(蒙住, 压抑),every noise changed to some thing soft and musical. No more tramping(踏,践) hoofs(蹄),no more rattling wheels.Only the chiming of sleigh(雪橇)-bells,beating as swift and merrily as the hearts of children.

“No, no! You are a wolf.”
Then the wolf blew down the straw house. The first pig ran to the wooden house.
Then the wolf came to the wooden house, too. The two pigs ran to the stone house.

  The Clever King Solomon
Long, long ago, there was a king. Solomon was his name. He was very clever. In his country, there were two women. They lived in the same house and each had a child.
One night, one of the babies died. The dead baby’s mother took the other woman’s baby, and put it in her own bed.
The next morning , they had a quarrel.
“No, this is my baby!” The dead is yours!”
Each one wanted the living baby. So they went to see King Solomon.
“Bring me a knife, cut the child into two and five, each woman one half.” said the King.
“Oh. Your Majesty! Give her my baby. Please don’t kill my baby!”
Then King Solomon pointed to the woman in teas and said, “Give the baby to her. She is the mother.”
God had given Solomon any wish, and he chose wisdom. This I heard from another guard. Icouldn’t believe it! Why hadn’t he picked other things like riches, long life, or the death of his enemies? Now I know why because he is one of the youngest rulers ever and he needs wisdom to rule the people. God thought that it was such a good answer so he gave him wisdom, riches, power and fame.
When Pharaoh came to Jerusalem to speak with Solomon, I was called to stand behind KingSolomon. I was listening to their conversation when finally they came to a point. Solomon had made an alliance or a so-called treaty of peace by marrying Pharaoh’s daughter. I was at their wedding too. I soon overheard about how King Solomon was making a temple to the one and only God above. I was sent to work at the masonry, because I was once a stone mason and they are short of masons so they are pulling everybody with rock carving experience to them asonry. At least I don’t have to worked like those labour slaves have to. They are worked until they are almost dead. It looks like they never stop working. I feel that those labour.

  The phoenix
Many ages had now passed away since the Phoenix had been seen in the world. At last he again appeared. Immediately al the different kinds of animals, both birds and beasts, flocked around him.
Astonished at his beauty, they stared and admired, and broke out into great praise. But in a short time, the wisest and most prudent(谨慎的) amongst them began to look upon him with an eye of compassion, and they sighed,"O unhappy phoenix! Fate has been hard to him. He has neither mate nor friend. He will never know the pleasure of loving, or of being loved."
As a young man, Al was a skilled artist, a potter with a wife and two fine sons. One night, his older son developed a severe stomachache. Thinking it was only some common intestinal(肠的) disorder, neither Al nor his wife took the condition very seriously . But the boy died suddenly that night.
Knowing the death could have been avoided if he had only realized the seriousness of the situation, he always felt he was guilty. To make matters worse, his wife left him a short time later, leaving him alone with his six-year-old younger son. The hurt and pain of the two situations were more than Al could stand, and he turned to alcohol for help. In time Al became an alcoholic.
As the alcoholism progressed, AL began to lose everything he possessed -- his land, house, etc. Finally Al died alone in a small bar. Hearing of Al"s death, I thought, "What a totally wasted life! What a complete failure! "
As time went by , I began to revalue my earlier rough judgement . I knew Al"s now adult son, Ernie. He is one of the kindest, most caring , most loving men I have ever known. I saw the love between Ernie and his children, thinking that kindness and caring had to come from somewhere .
I hadn"t heard Ernie talked much about his father. One day, I worked up my courage to ask him what on earth his father had done so that he became such a special person. Ernie said quietly, "As a child until I left home at 18, Al came into my room every night, gave me a kiss and said, "love you, son."
Tears came to my eyes as I realized what I had been a fool to judge Al as a failure. He had not left any material possessions behind. But he had been a kind loving father, and left behind his best love.
